Upgrading To Easyblog 6

Please ensure you go through the following before upgrading to EasyBlog 6. This can be very helpful to increase the likelihood of a smooth transition process.

1. Back-up your database and site files.

2. Take note on past customized files including core files, template overrides and custom css.

3. During the upgrade, EasyBlog will make a backup of the folder /components/com_easyblog/themes/ into /components/com_easyblog/backups/easyblog_v[X.X.X]/themes. This is to ensure that your modifications are not lost.

4. If you have made any template overrides under /templates/[TPL]/html/com_easyblog/ , be sure to update it. If it was provided by your template provider, you should get in touch with them. If they are not responsive, get in touch with us and we'll try to reach out to them.

5. The path of email template overrides has also changed on EasyBlog 6. The installer will run a script to migrate your old email template overrides to the new path on /templates/[TPL]/html/com_easyblog/emails/. A back-up folder will also be created here, /templates/[TPL]/html/com_easyblog/emails/emails_backup/. Please check your email template overrides at the new path and adapt them to the new version.

6. After the upgrade, avoid sending email notifications, especially to a large number of users until you have verified that your email template overrides are showing correctly.

7. When performing a major upgrade, for example from EasyBlog 5 to 6, it is strongly advised to upgrade on a staging/mirror site first as a precaution. This gives you can idea on how the upgrade will likely turn out on your production site. Plus, you can also work on your customization on the staging site to adapt to the new version.

8. After the upgrade, if you are experiencing any issue with the layout, clear your browser's cache just in case the browser cached the previous version of the css files.
